On January 6, 2000, the Bullitt Mustang GT concept debuted at the 2000 Los Angeles Auto Show. This concept car was intended to be reminiscent of the 1968 Mustang 390 GT Fastback, which stared in the movie "Bullitt" along side the late Steve McQueen. Ford's newest concept car intended to "visually and emotionally recreated the excitement of one of the greatest movie car chase scenes," says J Mays, Ford Motor Company vice president of Design. "Still as popular today as it was when it was introduced in 1964, the Mustang and the Bullitt concept show the possibilities for customizing this car and keeping the excitement alive as ever."

The concept vehicle featured many items reminiscent of the original Bullitt, including five-spoke 18 inch aluminum wheels, new hood, front and rear lamps, new front and rear fascia and a 60's styling gauges and instrument panel. The interior leather racing-inspired seats had vertical stitching which was also reminiscent of the 60's styling. This complete tribute package was displayed in the classic pursuit green finish.
