MACH 1"What is old in new again..." seems to be the motto at Team Mustang these days. Early last summer, June 21-24, 2001 in Tulsa Oklahoma, Team Mustang introduced the brand-new Mach 1 which may be in production in late 2002 and it targeted to be in the price range between the Mustang GT and SVT Cobra.
The
concept Mach 1 borrows the shaker hood scoop from Classic-Design Concepts (http://www.classic-designconcepts.com).
Essentially, the shaker is a 1969 part with custom duct work to fit the intake
system. The shaker looks very 1969-70 Mach 1 protruding through a hole cut from
the hood of the new Mustang as seen below. Roush Performance (http://www.roushperf.com) also played a part in the development of the power train. Mach 1
concept is basically a Cobra, with the 4-valve 4.6 engine, but with a solid rear
axle instead of the standard independent rear suspension. The front of the Mach 1 is essentially the current Mustang with the factory honey-combe grille removed with a blacked out hood. Inside, are Bullitt gauges and pedals. A T-handel shifter has also been added. The seats were also unquie to the Mach 1 which look like they date back to the original 1969 version.
The Mach 1 logo is also
found in black on the rocker panel with Mach 1 stripes. The current wheels are the Bullitt style but the Mach 1 may be introduced with a set that resembles the vintage 18 inch Magnum 500. As long as Ford keeps concepts like this alive, the legend of the Mustang will live forever. Long live the Mustang.
